San Francisco, Part I

Betsy is one of my oldest friends, and we recently reconnected online. When we were in high school, we made several trips to San Francisco to visit her grandparents, dad, and other relatives. We also went to Hawaii and Disney World. She is now a speech pathologist and lives in beautiful San Francisco full time.

I decided to invite myself out for a visit this summer, and we had a WONDERFUL visit. I just love visiting with her b/c she's very real and always has an interesting view and challenging insights. And she's just fun to hang out with. The trip out was quite a nightmare, though. On my first try, I got stranded in Austin due to storms and just decided to come home and try again the next day. Even though I was a day late, we didn't let it dampen our fun!

Having a little Sofia Rose upon arrival.

Betsy had these really neat-o jewelry holders that she had made herself. I took pictures b/c I want to make some!

I loved all the unique signs and how few chain/big box stores there were.

Leo's tribute to MJ

Leo's camp this week did a little talent show at the end of the week. He was so excited about it! I offered to take him to the science museum instead on this day, but he couldn't miss his performance. Make sure you watch the whole thing - he really gets into the dance in the middle of the first video.

After the first performance, they had to do an encore for a parent who was a little late. Henry couldn't stand it - he had to get in on that one! Maybe he's going to love to be on stage - he would get it honestly, wouldn't he?

FW Zoo

We took the boys to the FW Zoo in early June. It was hot and crowded, but we had fun for a little bit...and then left!!!

Feeding the birds is always a favorite activity.

Swimming Lessons

We've been taking swimming lessons this week. Leo is getting better at doing the crawl and the backstroke and having a great time. Henry has not been a very happy camper most of the week. He did not like putting his face in, etc. He cried A LOT the first day, and it got a little better each day. By Friday, he was doing all the little skills, but whenever it was his turn to sit on the steps, he would do his fake cry. When Leo took swimming lessons in Allen, the teacher had the parents sit out of sight of the children, and they just had to cry and keep going. So that has been my attitude with Henry. The mom of another cryer in the group started the week standing out in the side yard with me, but she couldn't stand it. So by Wednesday, she was sitting on the steps with the child and not making her put her face in. As my kid sits there and screams while his mean mommy makes him do it. Pretty awkward and gut-wrenching for me. But we persevered! We took him to the pool today, and look at him go! He jumped off the side at least one million times and begged to do it again and again. Yay, Henry!!!

Oh, and after listening to myself scream "Yay!" on these videos, I'm sure people were really sick of me at the pool. I was so ecstatic that he was having a good time that I was oblivious.

We love this new waterproof camera!
