This and That

Todd and Leo are gone on an Adventure Guides campout this weekend, so it's just me and Henry this weekend. So far, we are doing fine. Henry is going through a real "mommy" phase right now, so he is perfectly content. Only I can get him out of the bed, he MUST be rocked by only mommy before bed, etc.

Leo is doing well in first grade. We had some problems at the first of the year when he talked disrespectfully to the teacher and wanted to argue and dominate her conversations with him. Gosh, I just can't ever imagine my precious Leo doing that? (hear dripping sarcasm) But we had lots of talk about it and made some changes, and he is doing much better. I substituted for the teacher one afternoon this week while she did some training, and she was HIGHLY complementary of his behavior. His reading and other subjects are going well.

Henry has had a couple of cute moments lately. When we were driving home from preschool one day this week, he pointed at the ghost decorations in the trees and said..."Those aren't ghosts. Those are trashbags." Which is exactly what they are.

Yesterday, we went to a really cute indoor playground. He found a bunch of big plastic bugs to play with. When he got to a big ladybug, he told me..."His name is Fruit Punch." He hadn't named any of the other creatures, so I asked him why. But it is destined to remain locked in the brain of a two-yr-old. Then when we were leaving, there was a real ladybug on the window of my car. I showed him, and he said..."Hey, there's Fruit Punch!!!" I asked him why again, and this time he told me..."Because he is orange." This ladybug was orange, so I guess that is my answer!

Here are some pictures from the zoo on Columbus Day.

The next morning, we went to breakfast. It was over 30 people, so we had to wait quite a bit even though they had warned the owner. Henry did pretty well at sitting in the booth for almost two hours. He enjoyed playing with Gran's reading glasses.

We left on Sunday afternoon to head back to Abilene. Henry slept, and Leo and I played with pipe cleaners - a wonderful car entertainment suggestion from Miss Carla.

We went to Double Dave's for pizza and salad buffet, and then we went to Cold Stone Creamery for some ice cream.

I filmed this as a little example of what eating has been like for Todd and me for pretty much the past seven years. He's saying..."I forgot something."

When we got up this morning...we were all pretty much done. Ready to be home, ready for some space, and I was REALLY tired of digging through suitcases to find underwear, socks, shirts, pants, etc. for everyone. We ate at the hotel and got on the road. Henry slept for a good bit of the trip. When we got to about Weatherford, he woke up and decided he was done. So the last hour wasn't fun, but we made it. He cheered up right before we got home and did some reading for us.

when we got home, Leo wanted to get out our Rock Candy experiment that we started last week. They actually did make some crystals - he was pleased.

We had a fun trip and it was great to see family! And now it's good to be home with no car trips in the near future!
