Our 4th of July

The boys and I dressed up in Red, White, and Blue, but Leo wouldn't be in the picture. So here are mommy and Henry.

We really didn't do much for the 4th - I thought it was kind of a let-down of a holiday with it being in the middle of the week. We just went out to lunch, took a nap, and grilled. Henry has been getting fussy in the afternoons because of his new teeth, so I cooked with him in his favorite place. We couldn't get him to sleep any other way...once I got him on my back, he was out in 30 seconds.

We didn't do very well at cooking all-American. I made chicken burgers with peanut sauce - they were very yummy.

And Leo and I made an orange cake with cream-cheese frosting (all out of a box or can).

I fell asleep before the fireworks, so I don't have any pictures of that. We can see them well from our driveway, so I fell asleep on the couch waiting. So, Daddy and Leo watched the fireworks together. During the fireworks, Leo got lots of mosquito bites. Because of all the rain, the mosquitoes are especially bad here this summer. Well, yesterday (Thurs) one of the bites looked like this. I was pretty concerned.

So, I gave him some Benadryl...and it seemed better this morning. Then worse this afternoon - it was redder and about twice the size it was yesterday. It was a little longer than my palm and about the width of my palm. I took him in to the doctor this afternoon, and it is infected. We got a shot, a round of antibiotics to take 3X/day for 10 days, and ointment to apply 3X/day. I think it looks better tonight, so we have faith that it won't interfere with our plans for next week. Fingers crossed.

Harvesting Basil

Leo helped me make pesto this week. He made it through "harvesting" and "washing" and then lost interest.

Our Week

Well, we had quite a week around here. I'll try to be as concise as possible. Leo was supposed to go to Camp Grandma and Grandpa in LA on Tuesday, but he had a 102 fever Sunday night. Tuesday I took him to the doctor, and they did the strep culture and looked him all over and declared it viral. The fever was gone by the next morning, so I took him halfway and met Brooksie and drove back. They were going to stay in LA til Friday and then go to a fishing resort in E TX. BUT - Friday at noon before they were supposed to leave, he was running a fever again. I dropped everything and Henry and I went and picked him up. We went to the doctor again yesterday morning - ear infection. We were all a little disappointed with how the week turned out. Leo was really looking forward to fishing, and we were going to enjoy a little preschooler break. Oh well.

Today, we all needed to get out of the house, so we took Leo down to the Galleria to try ice skating. I went down there to pick something up a couple of weeks ago, and Leo was very interested in trying skating.

First we had to stop and look at the fountains. Amazingly, we managed not to fall in.

Leo is always amazed by these trees on the third level.

Then it was time to get our skates on. Since daddy has never ice skated, he did the picture taking and stayed with H while I helped Leo.

And then we were on the ice. Leo got pretty nervous and wanted me to stay really close, but we made it. He also got to see the zamboni smooth the ice.

He fell during his first time around the edge, so he only went around once. I decided I needed to go around a few times before we left.

Picture with personality

I think this picture really captures Leo's personality right now. I just don't know what else to type - the picture really says it all. He is wet because he had already fallen in the pool - but, hey, he did swim for the side!! Guess he was listening and absorbing at swimming lessons.

Picture and writing

Leo asked me how to spell my name, and he wrote as I said each letter. He had to take to tries on the Y.

And this is a shark Leo drew on the computer. I was pretty impressed.
