Addison Fountains

Since we moved west, we have discovered the magic of The Addison Fountains. It's just a city park that has lots of little fountains and shallow pools that kids are allowed to play in - it's wonderful b/c there are several different areas and they can move from one to the next without ultra-close supervision (translation: mommy can sit on the bench in the shade!). It also has a great eating area and very clean bathrooms with diaper-changing equipment. So far, the mommy crowd doesn't seem to know about it, so it isn't ever crowded.

On Father's Day, we had a picnic there and enjoyed the fountains.

Henry and I read "Boomba"

Henry loves Charlie Parker Played Bebop by Chris Raschka. It has lots of sound effects in it that sound like jazz scatting (?), and he is so cute when he makes the sounds.

The part he likes goes...
Be bop.
Fisk, fisk.
Lollipop.
Boomba, boomba.
Bus stop.
zznn zznn.
Boppitty, bibbitty, bop. BANG!

Henry loves the sprinkler!

This morning, Henry spotted the sprinkler outside through my bedroom window. He wanted to get in it RIGHT.THAT.MINUTE! We had to take Leo to daycamp, and he talked about it all the way there, and all the way back. The minute we walked in the house, he went straight to the back door and started banging! Wouldn't even let me put a swim diaper on. So we just stripped right there in the yard and had a good time for over an hour. I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE having a yard we can play in!!! We also got a good 3 hour nap out of this.

Drinking some OJ from Sonic...

Riding around in his car. He likes to be pushed through the sprinkler in the car. So I had some sprinkler fun, too.

Dining Room Furniture

We finally chose some dining room furniture. We ended up with a square counter-height table that expands to seat 6. We are thrilled with it and think it fits the room really well. I also found something I liked to hang on the wall. There are some old holes there that we will spackle.

Summer Fun!

Here are some pics in our backyard...playing on the slip-n-slide and the sprinkler thingie. We're so happy to have a yard big enough for this! Our friend Evan (and Mommy and baby Luke) came to play last Friday.

We also went to a little playdate last week where a mommy had an underwater camera! She got these great shots of Leo...

Speaking of fun in the sun, we have had some great excitement this summer with Henry and the Saga of the Sunscreen. Everytime we've put sunscreen on him this summer, he has gotten it into his eyes and had a horrible reaction. Much more than just a little fussing. Enough to totally ruin three outings - we had to come home. After the last one - a family pool outing where H and I had to leave after 30 minutes, I have gotten an advanced degree in sunscreen ingredients and their possible effects. Turns out that Henry has a strong reaction to sunscreens that use chemicals as their active ingredients. We are now having to special-order mineral-based sunscreens that use titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. Right now, we are using Blue Lizard. I also have some Dr. Hauschka, but we haven't tried it yet. It smells so sweet that I'm afraid it will attract insects. We are anxiously awaiting the return of California Baby, which is having problems keeping up with demand. The Blue Lizard does a much better job - we have only had minimal eye-rubbing and no crying since we discovered The Lizard! We are all having to use it b/c he can get it on his hands and into his eyes from touching any of us. No more easy spray-on sunscreens for us - we're back to old fashioned hand application.
