Leo quote

Yesterday afternoon, we went up to Leo's school for the big unveiling. At 4:30 on the dot, they post class lists...so everyone goes up there to see who their teacher and classmates will be. Then there is a little fair-type thing in the cafeteria where you can buy school shirts (they wear them on Fridays), pre-packaged school supplies, extra-curricular activities, PTO sign-up, etc.

So...we were walking through everything, and Leo spotted the Scouting table. They had a display with pictures of things they do and brochures. As we were walking home, I asked Leo if he would like to do Scouts. He said..."Mommy, did you see that picture of the boy fishing? That is how I know I have to be in Scouts - Fishing is my DESTINY!!!"

Swimming Lessons and Muehlenbeck Center

We've done lots of swimming today! Henry said he was "not tired" all the way home, and then practically passed out before I could get him covered up!

I tried to get them to pose, but it was a no-go.

Technical Difficulties

We are still here. The card on my camera croaked, and so Todd ordered me a replacement. I lost lots of pictures that hadn't been saved, but I'm not going to dwell on it. I have my old faithful Canon that never dies, so I'm firing it up for our outing today.

We went to a nice waterpark with the boys on Saturday that they both loved called Hawaiian Falls. It's right down the road, and Todd and I both remarked how the boys don't know how different this is from the way we grew up. Going to something as fancy as that required many hours in the car for both of us! Anyway, they had a wonderful time...Henry mostly splashed and played in the sprayers, and Leo rode the slides he was tall enough to qualify for and played in the wave pool. You could also take a cooler into this place, so I packed us a beautiful healthy lunch. But I lost all the pictures.

School starts for Leo on Monday, and today at 4pm we can go see who his tchr is and who's in his class. I'm taking both boys to a pool in Plano today after Henry's swimming lessons, and if I'm still sane...I'm going to take them to the Boy Scout Museum in Irving tomorrow. Things I meant to do all summer, so now we're down to the wire.

Henry is doing amazing in his swimming class, and I hope to have a new video soon. I've signed both of them up for indoor swimming lessons through Plano Parks and Rec for the fall - I don't want Henry to forget what he has learned, and Leo needs some practice on swimming distances. He has had trouble passing the swimming competency test at the Y when his daycamp goes there for swimming day. I think it's mostly a confidence issue combined with lack of practice.

Off to pack another cooler with lunch for today and gather up swimsuits, sunscreen, and towels. I can pack a cooler with a great lunch - start to finish - in about 20 minutes.

Spraypark Saturday

We took the boys to a Spraypark in Frisco this morning. They had a blast, and it kept Saturday from being quite so long! Leo had a good time, but he's starting to outgrow the sprayparks. Henry, on the other hand, could stay there all day. Sorry there are smudges - someone (cough - Leo) touches the lense. Oh, and this park also had a mudhole - JACKPOT for Henry.

Tonight, we're taking them to drop in and going to Cadillac Ranch for dinner, and then DQ for Girl Scout Cookie blizzards. Our kind of date!

It's still hot here but not in the 105 range. School starts for Leo in 2 weeks, and we're all excited about that. Henry doesn't start until Sept. 8th, and he'll be going 3 days/week. I'm really looking forward to fall - a little more time to myself, happy kids, new teachers, new friends, cooler temperatures, fall holidays, and we have some fun things planned with both my family and Todd's.

He gets it honestly!

Last week, Leo went on a Day Camp Field Trip to the Texas Motor Speedway. He loved it, and he came home and told us all about how you could rent or buy a motor home and camp right in the middle of the race. Todd turned up his nose.

Holly: You don't think that sounds like fun?
Todd: My neck's not that red.
Holly: Well, Leo, I think that sounds fun. Brookses like to do things like stay in trailers and motorhomes.
Todd: (rolls eyes and laughs)

So then this weekend, Leo came running in the dining room to tell us very excitedly..."NASCAR is ON TV!!!!!"

Todd (to me): You do realize that wrestling is next, right?
